Let’s Go Year-Round!

The Statesboro Herald article, “Help in Hard Times” said that the Statesboro Food Bank served 21 families Thanksgiving meal supplies on Tuesday.  The food bank normally serves about 15 families daily.

The economic recession has forced many families to lessen their normal grocery funds. The winter holiday traditions revolve around large meals which also create large grocery bills. This forces families to rely more on food banks and especially during the holidays.

Fletcher Memorial Baptist Church provided service and food for the Statesboro Food Bank during the beginning of November. I am glad to see the church donating not only their funds by providing food, but also their time.

As the article states though, the food bank needs to continually receive donations and volunteers throughout the year, especially with the current economic situation. I hope that Fletcher continues to donate their time and resources to the food bank. Creating a ministry devoted to helping the Statesboro Food Bank would be extremely beneficial in keeping Fletcher’s involvement with the food bank year-round.

Kudos to your church for their efforts. Helping provide food for the needy is one of the most rewarding ways to help, and it shouldn’t be limited to the time around the holidays. My church also collects food each Sunday, year round, and donates it to the local food bank. In addition, I am active in a club that provides regular donations to the food bank. The organization I am working with this semester, Girl Scouts of Emanuel County, has also joined in the efforts to keep the local food bank stocked. As more and more folks are experiencing hard times, it willl become even more critical to help with this outreach. I can’t think of a better gift to give someone~

It is really nice that your church is helping the local food bank. During the holiday there is nothing nicer than to lend a hand to all those in need. Everybody should remeber that the winter holidays, should be a time to give to those who are less fortunate instead of giving to those who have been blessed with a home, good health, commodities, and a loving family. Lets hope that other people follow the example of your church.
